ROWING CLUB NEWS
JUNIOR (NORTH) HEAD
Racing the rain on the Mersey
The Junior (North) Head returned
to Runcorn Rowing Club in January
for another exciting day of head
racing on the Mersey. Now a wellestablished fixture in the junior
calendar, the event attracts clubs
from across the country.
Head racing is a time trial format
where crews set off at intervals and
race against the clock over a set
course, this event offered both a
long (7km) and short course. This
year's entry included crews from as
far afield as Windsor and Dulwich,
making it a competitive outing for
all our rowers. Unfortunately, for
the rowers, it was a miserable day
with relentless rain!
For the longer morning division
Queen's Park Chester had two
crews in action and both performed
well in testing conditions. Our
Women's J17 4x- (quad) recorded
a time of 24:19.7 to finish 5th in a
competitive field that included Notts
CRA (winners, 22:04.3),
Nottingham & Union and St Peter's
School. A fine effort from the crew
who showed real determination
over the long course.
In the afternoon division, our
second Women's J17 4x- crew
delivered an excellent performance
to finish 1st in their division with a
time of 14:34.5; a fantastic result!
Our Mixed J18 4x- also raced well
in Division 2, finishing 3rd out of
five crews with a time of 13:22.1.
