GAME, SET & MATCH!
Wimbledon Winners
It was another fantastic day at
Wimbledon for eight lucky Year 10
GCSE PE students who enjoyed an
unforgettable trip to the world9s most
famous tennis tournament.
After travelling to London, the group
were fortunate enough to have tickets
for Court 2, giving them the chance to
watch some top class tennis in the
glorious summer sunshine. Students
witnessed British hopes Julian Cash
and Lloyd Glasspool in action in the
men9s doubles, before enjoying the
intensity and skill of the women9s
doubles quarter-finals.
The excitement didn9t stop there. After
their time courtside, the group headed
to the famous Henman Hill (or Murray
Mound, depending on who you ask!)
to soak up the unique Wimbledon
atmosphere. Students relaxed on the
iconic Wimbledon deckchairs in front
of the giant screen, taking in the
action alongside thousands of
passionate tennis fans.
The highlight of the afternoon came
as British wildcard Arthur Fery battled
through a nail-biting quarter-final. The
atmosphere on the hill was electric,
with every point greeted by roars from
the crowd as supporters cheered on
the home favourite in a match full of
drama and excitement.
Meanwhile, Miss Darroch and Mr
Taylor bravely endured the day by
sampling the traditional Wimbledon
strawberries and cream while
enjoying the sunshine - a tough
assignment, but someone had to do t!
The Wimbledon trip remains a
highlight of the PE calendar, giving
students the opportunity to
experience elite sport up close,
immerse themselves in the unique
atmosphere of a major sporting event,
and create memories that will last
long after the final point has been
played.
Game, set and match, and another
brilliant Wimbledon experience for
QPHS!
Chloe represents everything
this award stands for. Her
achievements on the pitch are
outstanding, but her commitment
to developing younger players
is truly inspirational. She has
strengthened girls’ football
at QPHS in a way that will
be felt for years to come.
