FUTURES FOCUS
Expert guidance on personal statements & post-18 pathways
On 17th June, we were delighted
to welcome back Joy Brereton
and Jen Rushton from Wrexham
University for an informative and
inspiring masterclass with our
Year 12 students.
During the session, Joy provided
a valuable overview of Higher
Education and the UCAS
application process, helping
students understand the range of
opportunities available after sixth
form. Students also received
expert guidance on the new
personal statement format, giving
them a head start as they begin
planning and drafting their own
applications.
The masterclass focused on
writing effective personal
statements for both UCAS and
apprenticeship applications,
while also offering an insight into
university life and the different
routes into Higher Education.
The session helped students
better understand what to expect
and how to make confident,
informed choices about their
futures.
As well as gaining plenty of
useful advice, students were
thrilled to receive some university
merchandise and freebies at the
end of the morning!
Over the autumn term, students
will continue exploring their post-
18 pathways while working on
their UCAS and apprenticeship
applications. Their preparations
will culminate in a mock interview
and assessment centre
experience in January 2027,
helping them build confidence
and prepare for the next stage of
their journey.
Supporting students to make
informed decisions about their
next steps is a key part of the
Futures – Careers Education,
Information and Guidance
programme at Queen9s Park
High School, and we would like
to thank Joy and Jen for helping
our students take another
positive step towards achieving
their goals.
