FUTURE READY
Careers brought to life
Our Year 8 students recently took
part in an action-packed Careers
Safari as part of the Cheshire and
Warrington Future Ready
Programme!
The programme is designed to
connect students with local
employers and give them a real
insight into the world of work. By
combining experiences like
workplace visits, mentoring and
workshops, it helps students build
confidence, develop key skills and
start thinking about their future
careers.
In just one day, students visited
three very different organisations
across Chester giving them a
fantastic snapshot of a wide range
of industries The day began at The
Eaton Estate where students got
hands-on and discovered the wide
range of jobs involved in looking
after the stunning 88-acre
gardens. Meeting the team
including Head Gardener Harvey
really helped bring the job to life
and showed the skill and
dedication involved.
Next stop was Chester Zoo, where
students spoke to various
members of staff and found out
just how many different roles exist
and not just working with animals!
It was a great chance to learn
about the transferable skills that
are useful in lots of different
careers.
I enjoyed meeting Harvey, the
Head Gardener at Eaton Estate. I
learnt a lot about the skills he
uses every day in his job role
and loved visiting the
Kitchen Garden.

The final visit took students to
Eastgate Square, where they went
behind the scenes to learn how a
busy shopping centre operates,
from day-to-day management to
customer service.
The day definitely gave everyone
lots to think about and students
came away with plenty of new
ideas and inspiration.
I had no idea how many
transferable skills can be used
across different businesses. At
the Zoo, I learnt about loads of
different roles I could
have .It’s not just about
looking after the animals!
