A WEEK IN THE SPOTLIGHT
Lights, Camera, Careers!
A group of Year 10 and Year 12
Drama students recently took part in
an exciting Work Experience Week,
giving them a valuable insight into
the many different careers and
opportunities available within the
performing arts industry.
lighting, sound, stage management
and event organisation. The
experience gave them a real
appreciation of the teamwork,
planning and problem-solving
needed to deliver a successful large
-scale production.
The week was packed with handson experiences that helped students
develop both their creative and
practical skills. One of the highlights
was the opportunity to work in a
professional studio theatre
environment. Students collaborated
to devise and rehearse a series of
original monologues inspired by the
work of acclaimed playwright Alan
Bennett, developing authentic
characters, refining their
performance skills and gaining a
deeper understanding of the
creative process behind theatre
production.
Another memorable part of the
week was an inspiring workshop led
by Sean Jones, best known for his
acclaimed role as Mickey in the
West End production of Blood
Brothers. Sean shared stories from
his professional career and led a
range of performance activities
designed to build confidence,
creativity and stage presence.
Students were inspired by his
experiences and benefited greatly
from the opportunity to learn from a
successful theatre professional.
Students also went behind the
scenes to explore the technical side
of live performance. They played an
important role in preparing for the
school's Summer 80s Concert,
gaining practical experience in

attended the VIP press night of
Outlaws at Storyhouse's Grosvenor
Park Theatre. Complimentary
tickets gave them the chance to
experience high-quality professional
theatre first-hand and see the
standards expected within the
QPHS NEWS
industry. The evening provided
plenty of inspiration and
encouraged students to reflect on
the skills and techniques they had
been exploring throughout the
week.
The Work Experience Week offered
the perfect balance of performance,
technical theatre and industry
engagement, helping students
broaden their understanding of the
many pathways available within the
arts. Throughout the week, students
embraced every opportunity with
enthusiasm, creativity and
professionalism.
It was certainly a busy week, but
one that will be remembered for a
long time. The experiences gained,
skills developed and professional
connections made provided an
invaluable insight into the world of
theatre and performance. We are
incredibly proud of all the students
involved, who represented the
school brilliantly and made the most
of this unique opportunity.
