ART MASTERCLASS
Creative skills in bloom
In July, Year 10 GCSE Art & Design students enjoyed an inspiring
masterclass with former QPHS art teacher and practising mixed media
artist, Amy Swann, thanks to funding from the school's PTA.
Amy shared insights into her creative process, showing how she uses
sketchbooks and botanical forms from nature to develop ideas for a range
of artistic products, from ceramics to decorative designs.
Students began with observational drawings of wildflowers before
experimenting with pen, watercolour and a variety of mixed media
techniques. Using paper, wire and modelling clay, they created intricate 3D
sculptures inspired by natural forms.
Our students demonstrated fantastic focus and creativity throughout the
five hour workshop, producing a range of detailed and sophisticated final
pieces that will strengthen their GCSE portfolios.
A huge thank you to Amy for sharing her time, talent and expertise with our
young artists. We can't wait to see how the skills, techniques and
inspiration gained during the masterclass influence students' future GCSE
work.
The day was a real success, and it
was wonderful to see students so
engaged, creative and willing to
experiment with new ideas.
