8WOW9 WORTHY ART WORK
Creativity in full colour
Where does the time go?
It's been a busy start to the year in
the Visual Art and Design
department with GCSE and A
Level Art, Photography and 3D
Design students preparing ideas
for their chosen exam questions
ahead of final assessments
shortly after Easter. All students
have made a fantastic start,
working with real focus and
determination as they explore new
materials, techniques and
processes inspired by a wide
range of artists, designers and
photographers. Their commitment
and imagination are shining
through, and we wish them every
success as they head into this final
stretch.
Meanwhile Year 7 and Year 8
students have been developing
their painting skills. Year 7 have
been exploring colour and abstract
expression, responding to the
work of British artist Howard
Hodgkin. Using his ideas about
memory, imagination and place,
they9ve produced beautifully
layered surfaces full of bold
shapes, colour and texture on a
made frame.
Year 8 have built on their previous
skills to create expressive
landscape paintings inspired by
Rachel Cassiani9s simplified semiabstract vivid colour work and the
powerful expressive colour found
in David Hockney9s landscapes.
Their responses show a growing
understanding of composition,
pattern and colour, resulting in eye
-catching pieces.
And brighten the classroom they
certainly have! The 8WOW Wall 8is
living up to its name! It has
transformed Mr Parker9s room into
a burst of colour and creativity… a
definite sign that summer is on the
way!
