POLITICS IN ACTION
The Power of Student Voice
We were delighted to welcome Aphra Brandreth MP to Queen9s
Park High School earlier this term for an engaging visit that offered
students a real insight into public life. Aphra began her visit with a
tour of the school led by Headteacher Mr Tom Kearns, where she
saw a wide range of lessons in action before going on to meet Mr
Darren Jones, CEO of The Learning Trust.
One of the highlight9s of the tour was an energetic Year 8
instrumental carnival music lesson. Aphra was keen to join in and
experience the rhythm, creativity and enthusiasm of the classroom
first-hand!
The visit concluded with a thoughtful Q&A session, during which
students raised issues that matter to them, including whether the
age of consent for accessing social media should be increased to
16. Aphra later took these views to Parliament to share with the
Education Minister.
We are incredibly proud of our students for the thoughtful and
mature way they engaged in the discussion, and we are grateful to
Aphra for taking the time to listen, respond and champion their
views at a national level.
A fantastic example of student voice in action at QPHS!
