CELEBRATING A LOVE OF READING
Cheshire Schools9 Book Awards
On 20th May, our PageTurners
Book Club and Year 10 student
librarians, accompanied by Ms
MJ, joined over 400 students at
Storyhouse Chester for the 20th
anniversary of the Cheshire
Schools9 Book Award.
This special event also formed
part of the National Year of
Reading, bringing together 29
schools from across Cheshire,
Halton and Warrington to
celebrate books chosen by
young readers.
The day included author
workshops, talks, interactive
book-themed activities and
behind-the-scenes tours, before
culminating in the awards
ceremony.
Students met shortlisted authors
Ravena Guron, Sophie Jo,
Marisa Linton, Louisa Reid and
Jenny Pearson, taking part in
engaging sessions and
discussions throughout the day.
The Cheshire Schools9 Book
Award is entirely student-led,
with young people nominating
and voting for their favourite
reads. This year saw a record
number of secondary schools
take part, highlighting just how
powerful student voice can be in
shaping reading culture.
QPHS NEWS
After a fantastic day, everyone
gathered in the theatre to hear
the winners announced. In the
Younger category, The Vulpine
by Polly Crosby took first place,
with Shrapnel Boys by Jenny
Pearson as runner-up. In the
Older category, Traumaland by
Josh Silver was crowned winner,
with Mondays Are Murder by
Ravena Guron as runner-up.
We were also delighted to
purchase some of the shortlisted
titles thanks to Nantwich
Bookshop.
It was an inspiring and enjoyable
day and we9re already looking
forward to the 2027 Book
Awards!
