Multilingualism is a superpower in today9s world
Did you know: Spanish is
spoken in 21 countries and
French in 19!?
This half term, our Modern
Foreign Languages department
teamed up with Bank of America
to help students discover just
how valuable learning a
language can be in today9s
global workplace.
highlighting how languages have
shaped their careers and
enriched their lives. Students
then had the chance to quiz
these industry professionals on
how multilingualism supports
their daily work and the
meaningful ways it has helped
them connect, innovate and
thrive.
On Tuesday 24th February, our
Year 9 students took part in an
inspiring session that highlighted
the many advantages of
speaking an additional language,
from boosting employability to
opening up exciting opportunities
at university and across
industries such as engineering
and finance.
They learned that speaking
another language isn9t just about
vocabulary, it9s about opportunity
and standing out from the crowd.
Employers are actively seeking
multilingual candidates because
they bring:
Our guest speakers: Nigel,
Conah and Anya each shared
their personal stories,
Stronger Relationships: The
ability to build trust and
communicate with colleagues
Adaptability: A flexible, agile
mind ready to tackle problems
and think creatively.
and clients across cultures.
A Competitive Edge: Stand-out
skills that open doors to global
careers and future success.
Many students reflected that
they9d never realised how widely
languages are used beyond
traditional roles. The session
gave them a fresh perspective
and supported them in making
informed decisions about their
futures. Their feedback made it
clear that multilingualism is a
superpower in today9s
interconnected world.
A huge thank you to Nigel,
Conah and Anya from Bank of
America for delivering such an
engaging and eye-opening
session, and for showing our
students the incredible places
languages can take them!
