A rising star in Literature
Earlier this year, Mrs Phillips was delighted
to receive an invitation from the University of
Chester encouraging Queen9s Park High
School students to enter the Cheshire Prize
for Literature 2026.
We are thrilled that one of our youngest
writers, Annabelle L from Year 7 (E7WAK),
earned a place at this year9s prestigious
awards evening with her poem Moon
Goddess, a fantastic achievement in a year
that attracted a record number of entries.
The event included the announcement of
winners and anthology selections, as well as
an inspiring talk from children9s author Ele
Fountain.
Established in 2003, the Cheshire Prize for
Literature is one of the region9s leading
creative writing competitions, celebrating
emerging and established writers across
categories including poetry, short stories
and scriptwriting.
We are incredibly proud of Annabelle.
Her poem really captured the imagination,
and it’s wonderful to see her creativity
recognised at this level more!

CARNEGIE SUCCESS
Pageturners predict winner!
Our Pageturners Book Club enjoyed a fantastic visit to
Storyhouse for the Carnegie Awards Final, swapping
their usual rain-ready gear for umbrellas in the sunshine!
Joining King9s School and Upton High as part of Chester
Schools Together, students gathered in the Garret
Theatre to take part in book-themed activities,
from icebreakers to predicting this year9s
winners from the shortlist.
At lunchtime, they tuned in to the live ceremony
from London, hearing views from shadowing groups
across the country before the big announcement.
This year9s winner was Wolf Siren by Beth O9Brien and,
for the first time, both the Student Shadowing choice and
official panel award went to the same book! A powerful
and imaginative retelling of Little Red Riding Hood,
which is now available to borrow from the QPHS Library.
The afternoon ended perfectly with a sunny walk back to
school and an ice cream treat along the way. Another
brilliant experience for the Pageturners Book Club and a
celebration of reading at its very best.
