GOLD STANDARD MATHS
National Recognition in the UKMT Challenge
Following in the footsteps of our Year 9
mathematicians, it was the turn of our highperforming Year 7 and Year 8 students to take part
in the UK Junior Maths Challenge during the first
half of the Summer Term.
Organised annually by the UK Maths Trust (UKMT),
this national competition is designed to stretch
young minds, encouraging students to think
carefully, work accurately and apply their problemsolving skills with confidence.
On 29th April, our students joined more than
650,000 participants from across the UK and
beyond to tackle the 60 minute, 25 question
multiple choice challenge. Each question required a
mix of logical thinking, precision and fluent
mathematical reasoning.
We are incredibly proud of everyone who took part,
showing determination, focus and resilience
throughout the challenge.
A special congratulations goes to Year 8 students
Riley B, Harry A, Olly M, Juliusz and Gyatavya,
along with Year 7 student Emilia P, who all
achieved Gold Awards, an honour reserved for the
top 6 - 7% of participants nationwide.
Riley B was awarded Best in School, while Emilia P
achieved Best in Year, adding to their impressive
Gold Award success.
We also celebrate our Silver Award winners: Tadhg
(Year 7) and Phoebe L, Rueben T, Victoria A, Gruff
P and Eashan W (Year 8), alongside our 11 Bronze
Award recipients. Their achievements reflect the
hard work and dedication shown by all participants.
The next stage of the competition is the Junior
Kangaroo, a challenging follow-on round open only
to students who achieve qualifying scores in the
Junior Maths Challenge. This year, Olly M, Riley B
and Harry A all earned automatic qualification.
A special mention goes to Olly M, who achieved a
Silver Certificate in the Junior Kangaroo, an
outstanding accomplishment and a first for Queen9s
Park High School.
Congratulations to every student who represented
the school so brilliantly. We look forward to seeing
what they achieve next!
