The power of languages in global industries
On Thursday 3rd April our Bank of
America guest speakers returned
to deliver a workshop for Year 12
students focused on the
importance of understanding
different languages and cultures in
the workplace.
Our students were very lucky as
this was the first workshop of its
kind that Bank of America have
planned and delivered in a school
environment. The session enabled
students to gain a better
understanding of how linguistic and
communication skills play a vital
role when working for a
multinational company.
Year 12 were given a brief to
develop and present a marketing
campaign for a new product which
would be launched for young
people in the Spanish and French
speaking world.
The presentations went far beyond the
minimum requirements. The depth of
research was fantastic. Students
displayed real confidence presenting to
an audience, a vital skill for job
interviews in the future.
Nigel Jones, Pledge Facilitator
Bank of America
Our students rose to the challenge
with great enthusiasm. They
demonstrated excellent team work,
communication and problem
solving skills as well as
professionalism and creativity when
presenting their marketing
strategies. Nigel, Anya and Conah
were impressed by the depth of
research and the way in which all
students carefully considered the
specificities of their target market
and their cultural background.
By the end of the session, two
students asked how they could
develop their language learning
skills independently to ensure that
they maintained this skill beyond
GCSE. One student was brave
enough to approach our visitors for
a conversation in Russian, a real
highlight for all involved!
