Throughout the program, students
work on essential outdoor skills,
including map reading, camp craft,
following the countryside code, and
first aid. A strong focus is placed on
teamwork, communication, and
problem-solving - skills that are
valuable both in and out of the
classroom.
Navigation training is a key part of the
journey. Students learn how to
orientate a map, take bearings, pace
distances, and calculate timings using
Naismith9s Rule. These skills give
students the confidence to lead and
make decisions while out on the trail.
This year9s Silver training expedition
at the start of the Easter holidays was
a great success. We were fortunate to
enjoy sunshine across both days,
hiking through the stunning hills of
Harlech and Barmouth. Each group
covered up to 7 miles a day and were
out on foot for as long as 6 hours!
This demonstrated students9
incredible endurance, teamwork, and
a real sense of adventure!
In addition to our DofE work, APST
Education and Training are also
employed by The Learning Trust to
deliver the Uniformed Protective
Services course to students in Year
12 and 13. This BTEC course is
equivalent to three A Levels and
offers a clear pathway to university
while introducing students to a wide
range of careers within the uniformed
services sector. From law to the
armed forces and emergency
services, the course provides real
insight. APST has had great success
delivering this programme across all
three of our partner schools in the
North West.
At APST, we9re delighted to be
working with The Learning Trust at
Queen9s Park High School. Students
have been engaging, enthusiastic,
and eager to learn. For us, both the
DofE and the Uniformed Protective
Services course are incredibly
rewarding - not just because we9re
teaching valuable skills, but because
we get to witness students9 natural
leadership qualities flourish in the
outdoors and beyond.
AWARDED!
Bronze Achievers
Huge congratulations to our 18
exemplary Year 10 students who
have successfully completed
their Duke of Edinburgh Bronze
Award.
They were presented with their
certificates and badges by Mr
Denyer who delivers our
Uniformed Protective Services
programme, to recognise their
commitment, resilience and hard
work during assembly last term.
Well done to all students
involved, we are super proud of
you!
From a parent's viewpoint the
Gold DofE practice expedition was
excellent. Millie excitedly talked me
through the whole trip and the new
friendships she'd made and clearly
enjoyed the whole experience. We're
already looking forward to the longer
qualifier expedition in the summer.
