CAREERS WEEK
Inside the factory of books!
During National Careers Week
(3rd - 8th March 2025), students at
Queen9s Park were inspired to
explore their future aspirations
through the STEPs careers tutor
time programme, linking what
they9ve learned in school to realworld opportunities and pathways.
This year9s Careers Week was
extra special, as it coincided with
Storyhouse Schools Day and
World Book Day - creating the
perfect opportunity to connect
literature with exciting career
prospects. On 6th March, students
Your Path, Your Way
The theme of National
Apprenticeship Week (NAW) 2025
was 8Celebrating Apprenticeships9,
specifically calling on everyone to
consider the benefits they offer
including helping individuals to
develop the skills and knowledge
required for a rewarding career,
and employers to develop a
workforce with future ready skills.
explored roles such as publisher,
illustrator and author, and enjoyed
watching the BBC documentary
Inside the Factory - How Millions
of Books Are Made, presented by
TV favourite Paddy McGuinness.
In the episode, Paddy takes
viewers inside Clays book factory
in Suffolk, to learn how they
produce 20,000 copies of Pride
and Prejudice for publisher
Penguin. You can catch the

Lots of people get confused about
apprenticeships. That9s probably
because they9ve been around for
years, but they9ve changed a lot in
that time!
Mrs Watts led assemblies to
educate students about
Apprenticeships as a possible
pathway they may want to pursue
in the future. During set up, tutors
led activities using Amazing
Apprenticeships resources which
supported students to find out
more in order to make informed
choices.
NEXT STEPS
Guided Choices Evening
It was fantastic to see so many of our
Year 9 students and their families attend
their Guided Choices evening in January.
At Queen9s Park High School we want to
ensure that all of our students succeed
and for Year 9 students this is a crucial
stage in their education as they consider
the next steps in their education with us.
Our Guided Choices event enables
families to find out more about GCSE
option subjects and speak with different
subject teachers about their curriculum
offer before students choose what to
study at GCSE.
As part of the evening students and
parents had the opportunity to meet with
a wide range of employers, independent
training, Further Education, T Level,
Apprenticeship and Traineeship
providers to encourage students to think
about their next steps and to provide
parents with information about post -16
pathways.
I am delighted that so many of our
students are engaging with thinking about
their future choices and next steps as part
of their career journey. Thank you to The
Pledge, The WCNW Chamber of
Commerce and all of the employers and
businesses who took part in supporting
our students as they consider careers
linked to option subjects.
