risk-management, teamworking and
critical thinking.
During all Key Stages, students study
a wide range of topics linked to three
core themes of:

Physical Health & Mental
Wellbeing

FUTURE READY
Cracking the Code on Student Finance
Over the last 18 months, Key Stage 5
students have had dedicated WPD
lessons built into their timetables.
These sessions, shaped by student
feedback, have evolved into a
dynamic and engaging programme
that equips students with the
knowledge and confidence to make
informed choices about their futures.
From student finance to gap years,
universities to technical
qualifications, the range of topics and
guest speakers has been both broad
and impactful. Highlights have
included:
• University of Chester delivering
workshops on student finance
• Wrexham University guiding
students through university life
and UCAS personal statements
• YipiYap exploring gap year
opportunities
• Cheshire College South & West
introducing technical qualifications
like foundation degrees and
diplomas
Most recently, on 31st March, we
were delighted to welcome Stacey
Aura, Outreach and Widening
Participation Lead at the University of
Chester. Speaking to our Year 13
students, Stacey offered crucial
insights into Student Loans,
Maintenance Loans, Scholarships,
and Bursaries available for 20253
2026 applicants.
I was surprised that on average
students across the UK spend £1,104
per month and that nearly half of this
goes towards rent. The talk made me
think about how I need to budget.
