On Friday 7th March, Storyhouse
truly became 8our house9 as a group
of Year 9, 12, and 13 students
represented QPHS at the annual
Storyhouse Women Schools9 Day in
celebration of International Women9s
Day.
Accompanied by Miss Roberts and
Mrs MJ, our students joined peers
from Whitby High and Rudheath
Academy for a day packed with
inspiration, conversation, and
creativity. The event, which also
aligned perfectly with National
Careers Week, focused on
celebrating women, exploring issues
that affect them, and empowering the
next generation to dream big.
The day kicked off with a talk from
Storyhouse9s marketing team before
schools split off for workshops.
One key session saw students
stepping into the role of project
managers, designing events to
benefit young women. Ideas ranged
from mini festivals to weekly clubs,
with students considering everything
from budgeting and marketing to
grant funding.
Next came an energising workshop
led by local actor Paislie, who
encouraged students to believe in
their dreams - no matter how big or
small. From there, students headed
into a hands-on session exploring
communication skills through
interactive activities, including a
drawing challenge with a blindfolded
partner where students were
instructed to draw random items
including a watch and a bird to name
but a few!
The afternoon featured a thoughtprovoking Q&A panel with inspiring
women who discussed the arts,
climate change, and engineering. A
proud moment for QPHS came when
Tayla A in Year 13, was invited on
the panel herself to share her
experiences in the hospitality
industry.
Our students returned buzzing with
confidence and ambition, reminded
that their voices matter and their
futures are limitless. Mrs MJ said
they were a credit to QPHS, their
families, and most of all, themselves.
Here9s to saying 8yes9 to new
experiences, embracing every
opportunity, chasing dreams and
always owning who we are.
Go Queen9s Park!
Being part of the panel was a
really empowering experience. I
was able to share my journey, but
also gained so much from the
positive feedback and
encouragement I received.
