QPHS magazine - Spring Term 2025 - Magazine - Page 24
A spellbinding showcase of theatrical talent!
One of the strengths of the Queen9s Park High School
extra-curricular offer is its annual school production. This
year, the musical 8Ghost9 was chosen as our next
showstopping performance. The production, based on
the iconic 1990 film by the same name, was performed
over 5 days in the last week of the February half term to
an audience of well over 1000 people.
As with any large scale project, planning took place well
in advance back in August of 2024 when discussions
around a campfire in Ghana threw the production out as
a possibility!
With auditions taking place later in September, the
pressure was on to getting the casting spot on, and this
was not an easy decision. Whilst everyone who
auditions for a part in a QPHS production is guaranteed
to be in the show, finding the right combination of
performers for the roles is always difficult. However, we
were very lucky to have such a huge range of talent to

choose from and this resulted in a truly dedicated cast
who were perfect for the large number of roles on offer.
Similarly, one of the best attributes of the production are
the Backstage Crew, and our team of 52 students didn't
disappoint. They all had a significant part to play as
there were considerable challenges for each
performance which included: the setting/re-setting of the
apartment, the silent lifting and disappearance of the
underground train station set midway through Act II to
name but a few!
The amazing band were led brilliantly by Gareth
Mulholland, father of Toby who played Sam. Not a lot of
the audience knew that the band were actually in a
completely different part of the school and through video
relay and long distance comms cabling, they were able
to have their sound isolated and the quality of their
performance captured perfectly.
