YEAR 7 GET POLITICAL!
What is Parliament? What do
Members of Parliament do? Who
represents us locally? And what
roles do the House of Commons, the
House of Lords and the Monarch
play in shaping our laws? These
were just some of the big questions
explored during National Parliament
Week (24th - 30th November 2025)
and in recent PD assemblies.
Students learned about
representation, which is at the heart
of our democracy, and reflected on
the privileges we enjoy living in a
democratic society. Key Stage 3
students were especially intrigued to
discover that by the next General
Election, due by August 2029, the
voting age is set to be lowered,
giving 16 and 17 year olds the right
to vote.
Adding to the excitement, Year 7
took part in a mock election on
Democracy & the power of representation
Thursday 27th November. After
considering the manifestos of four
parties: Transform, Vision, Progress
and Tomorrow, students were ready
to cast their votes! The results were:
• Vision Party: 64 votes
• Tomorrow Party: 42 votes
• Transform Party: 12 votes
• Progress Party: 5 votes
The Vision Party won by a landslide
with a manifesto that included:
• Offering online GP appointments
24 hours a day
• Helping troubled families turn
their lives around
• Increasing choices for children
with special educational needs
• Improving the health of poor
people in developed countries
There was a real buzz in the air as
students debated ideas and made
their voices heard, an inspiring
glimpse into the democratic process!
