INSPIRED BY THE DEE
From riverside sketches to studio masterpieces
Year 12 Art & Design students
have made the most of our
school9s stunning riverside
location by the Old Dee Bridge,
overlooking the River Dee.
Autumn provided the perfect
backdrop for exploring natural
colour in one of the most vibrant
seasons of the year.
Armed with sketchbooks,
coloured pencils, watercolours
and cameras, students captured
the beauty of trees, flowing river,
shimmering reflections and crisp
golden sunlight.
Their observations revealed a rich
tapestry of textures, tones and
contrasting forms.
Through sketching and
experimenting with different
techniques and mediums,
students developed a deeper
understanding of place, over a
period of time. The ideas
collected were then used to
develop their final studio paintings
working on canvas in acrylic.
The outcomes are outstanding!
Well done Year 12!
I’ve really enjoyed the work
we’ve been doing in art. Having
the chance to go down to the
river and approach art from a
different perspective has been
truly inspiring. Although I’d
started exploring observational
art before A Level, this
experience has helped me
develop my skills and notice the
smaller details in the world
around us. I hadn’t worked on
canvas before, so being able to
experiment with larger-scale
pieces has been exciting. Some of
the styles were challenging, but it
has allowed me to push myself
massively, and I’m so grateful
for the opportunity!
