GEOGRAPHY GOES URBAN
Greener Travel in Manchester
As part of their A Level Geography
course, our Year 13 students have
been hard at work on their NonExamined Assessment (NEA) project.
This is an independent investigation
that makes up 20% of their final grade
and gives students the chance to apply
classroom knowledge to real world
issues.
Students travelled to Manchester to
carry out their primary data collection,
focusing on the city9s growing
reputation for sustainable transport.
With its mix of trams, cycle routes,
pedestrian zones and investment in
greener travel, Manchester offered the
perfect setting for students to explore
how urban areas can adapt to a more
sustainable future.
Throughout the day, students
completed a range of fieldwork
activities, including field sketches,
land-use surveys, environmental
quality assessments and public
questionnaires. These hands-on
tasks not only helped develop their
research and communication skills,
but also gave them a first-hand
insight into how data is gathered and
used in geographical investigations.
Back in school, students will now
use their findings to produce graphs,
carry out statistical tests and write
up their analysis and evaluation.
This next stage is a demanding one,
but it is also where their hard work in
the field really comes to life.
We look forward to seeing how their
projects develop!
